The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
