The Actress Expresses Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and further divisions within the United States.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

In a recent interview, she commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal contenders in past elections. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend abortion access.”

Industry Position

The star was aligned with most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Trump as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.

“The second term appears changed,” commented Lawrence of Trump’s presidency. “Because he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in the countryside. During a press conference for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is no less than a genocide and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

Lawrence added by saying that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

The actor attempted to refocus anger about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a nod to the recent commitment signed by numerous Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. While the director has disputed the plot being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress revealed that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, soon after filming concluded.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a medication called Zurzuvae and I used it for a short period and it really helped.”

Career Moments

The actor also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
