Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
