A budget proposal that would terminate the record-setting federal closure in the nation's history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a decisive ballot on midweek.

On the 43rd day of the budget deadlock, congressional members are returning to Washington to determine if they will endorse a upper chamber proposal that would support public services for the next eight weeks.

Majority party officials voiced optimism the budget proposal would pass through the House of Representatives, despite their tight margin. But leading opposition members pledged to fight it.
