A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The winter break provide a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid arguing with family members. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting announcements emerged during the holidays, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Perhaps the biggest announcement, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has yet to be revealed.
